The Biology Departments undergraduate advising program is designed to facilitate the progress of undergraduate students who are majoring in biology. Our primary mission is to ensure that you meet the requirements for a bachelors degree (B.S. or B.A.) in Biology, in a timely manner. However, in addition to approving your declaration of Biology as your major and conducting a degree check when youve completed 80 credit hours of course work, an important service provided by the Biology Departments advising team is helping students choose a course of study that will enable them to achieve their career goals.
That said, there are a number of reasons for meeting with a Biology Department advisor. Select your reason for wishing to see an advisor from the choices below, and you will be given a list of steps that you must complete before you visit your advisor:
Your reason for meeting with an advisor:
1. I want to declare a major or minor.
2. I want to get credit for biology courses taken elsewhere.
3. I want to define my course of study.
4. I have completed 80 credit hours of course work and must complete an Application for Degree.
5. Other.
Once you have the requisite information and completed forms, check the Advisors' Daily Schedule or contact an advisor to arrange for a meeting.
1. Go to the A&S Advisement Center and obtain a Major Declaration form.
2. Print your eProgress degree audit (from the LoboWeb Registration & Records menu). Any transfer classes that you have will show on that report.
3. If you have transfer courses in biology that do not have UNM equivalents, please contact the biology advisor before bringing your declaration in for signature.
4. Bring all materials with you when you meet with your advisor.
