DR. MARGARET WERNER-WASHBURNE AWARDED
2003 PRESIDENTIAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE, MATHEMATICS AND ENGINEERING

Dr. Margaret Werner–Washburne, UNM Professor of Biology, was among nine individuals and eight institutions recognized in a ceremony in May in Washington D.C., when she received the 2003 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. Each year the U.S. president recognizes the people and institutions that have provided broad opportunities for participation by women, minorities and people with disabilities in science, mathematics and engineering in elementary, secondary, undergraduate and graduate education. The National Science Foundation administers the awards, which include a $10,000 grant for continued mentoring work, on behalf of the White House.
