Type host: Sporophilae caerulescens (Double-collared seed eater).

Type locality: SOUTH AMERICA: Eastern Brazil, Rio de Janeiro.

Geographic distribution: SOUTH AMERICA: Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia.

Description of oocyst: Oocyst shape: spheroid to subspheroid; number of walls: 2; wall thickness: ~1.26; wall characteristics: oouter layer smooth, colorless to pale yellowish; L x W: 21.6 x 20.9 (18-23 x 19-23); L/W ratio: 1.0 (1.0-1.1); M: absent; OR: absent; PG: many, splinter-like or comma-like bodies at poles of longest axis of oocyst. Distinctive features of oocyst: unusual PGs.

Description of sporocysts and sporozoites: Sporocyst shape: ovoid; L x W: 15.2 x 10.7 (8-13 x 13-17); L/W ratio: 1.4 (1.2-1.8); SB: present as small, knob-like body; SSB: absent; PSB: absent; SR: present; SR characteristics: granular material dislocated to SB pole, plus presence of one well-defined cyrstalloid body in center of sporocyst; SP: have one RB at one end, compressed to the anti-SB pole. Distinctive features of sporocyst: large crystalloid body in sporocyst.

Prevalence: 1 of 1 (100%).

Sporulation: Exogenous. Oocysts were stored in 2.5% (w/v) aqueous potassium dichromate solution at ambient temp. prior to examination.

Prepatent and patent periods: Unknown.

Site of infection: Unknown. Oocysts found in intestinal scrapings.

Materials deposited: Oocysts in 10% formaldehyde-saline solution and phototypes deposited in the Parasitology Collection in the Dept. of Animal Parasitology, UFRRJ, Seropedica, EJ, Brazil, No. P-010/2004.

Remarks: This species has not been reported since its original description.
