The Program in Interdisciplinary Biological and Biomedical Sciences at UNM is a cross-departmental, college and institutional collaboration of students and faculty interested in interdisciplinary biological research

Focus Groups

Focus Groups are intended to be student instigated one time workshops or short-term working groups exploring in depth a particular topic of interest. Examples might include: a primer on the C programming language or mathematical scaling relationships, disease vector dynamics, policy or human health implications of global climate change, nutritional ecology, or mechanisms of dispersal in organisms.

Examples of things PiBBs could provide:

Organizational support:

  • Location scheduling, elist mailing, copying support, modest instructional budget, etc.
  • Pizza and/or light refreshments
  • Support for an outside speaker if expertise is not represented at UNM

How to apply:

Send a 1-2 page proposal to describing (1) the proposed activity, (2) likely outcomes, and (3) justification for PiBBs support (e.g., how the Focus Group is likely to increase the ability of participants to conduct interdisciplinary research). Deadline: Ongoing.

Additionally please include:

  • An initial list of identified interested participants
  • Plan for soliciting additional participants
  • Proposed faculty or post-doc mentor
  • A timeline and budget
