Initiatives to Maximize Student Diversity
Program Information
The program is funded at UNM through In Initiative to Maximize Student Diversity Grant from NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences. This grant encourages researchers at institutions to initiate and/or expand Innovative programs to increase minority participation in research and to facilitate their progress toward careers in biomedical research in any phase of their career development, from the undergraduate level through the Ph.D.
Applications for this program will be reviewed at the beginning of each semester.
Graduate students must be referred by their Degree Program. Undergraduate students must meet program eligibility requirements. Basic eligibility requirements are that participants must be a U.S. Citizen, must be interested in helping promote racial and ethnic diversity in the sciences at the graduate student, post doctoral, and faculty levels, or when space is available, be economically disadvantaged. Students must be full-time UNM students, working toward a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Psychology, and must possess a 2.75 GPA. Applicants with two consecutive semester GPA's of 2.75 will be considered on a case by case basis.
